We are glad you are interested in practicing talking together with an animal!
To get started, greet the animal and ask if they have time to talk with you. Remember that animals also lead busy lives even though we may not see all that they do. If they aren’t available, check back later.
Introduce yourself and explain why you are reaching out to them: that you are a member of the Animal Talk Coaching & Mastery Club and learning to better communicate with animals and would appreciate their help. You can ask them any questions you want. Typically they do provide a response. Please share your impressions of their personality, energy, how they feel and any insights they may share with you. By sharing what you get, the animal’s person can provide you with feedback and others can jump in too.
Use the Forum SEARCH field (located at the top of the right column below the picture of the Featured Animal Teacher) to find more discussions involving this animal (or other animals with the same name).
Some conversations have been lively, and we’ve learned some amazing insights, and laughed at jokes. Remember that this is a safe place to practice. This is about practice and learning, it is not about getting it perfect. The animals have much to teach us, to share with us and we with them.

Today I connected with Ivy. Right away from her picture, I felt that she was a very sweet girl who had some anxiety that she carries with her. Her eyes are so beautiful and represent her delicate personality filled with love. When I first connected with Ivy, we were outside in a backyard. She was across the yard from me, keeping a safe distance. I introduced myself and asked her if she would talk to me so that I can develop my animal communication skills. She asked what I wanted to talk about? Several times during this conversation, I felt a need to strengthen my connection.
She agreed to talk to me if she didn’t have to come close to me. I said that would be fine.
(T) Your way over there, so I’m guessing you’re not that comfortable around strangers.
(T) What about other dogs? Do you like being around other dogs?
(I) Being around other dogs is way better than being around humans.
(T) What about being close to your family? Do you like being near your family?
(I) I love my family but I still get tense when they touch me sometimes.
(T) Do you know why you still get tense when they touch you?
(I) No, I don’t know why I do that.
(I) For some reason they want me to come into the house. I like to be outside. I feel more comfortable outside. I don’t have to be outside all the time but more time outside than inside would be good.
(I) When it is really cold or it’s raining outside, my Mom wants me to come inside with the other dogs. I don’t like it sometimes. The TV is always shouting. The furniture doesn’t always have room. I prefer to be on the floor anyway.
(I) Thankfully no crates for us. There are a couple of us. We all look alike. My Mom must really like the way we look because we all look alike.
(T). I understand what you’re saying.
(T) So you would rather be outside. You do like to lay in front of the fireplace though when it is cold and raining outside.
(T) Do you get along with the other dogs in the house?
(I) Yes, we all get along.(T) So my impression is that you look a little shy. You like to be around your family. You love it when your family is outside together. That way you can come into close proximity for a pat or two and then go back to a distance when you need space. The house doesn’t have the room like the backyard to find space like the backyard.
(T). I see you brushing by your Mom as she is making your dinner.
(I) When I brush by my Mom, it’s so slight that she may not notice it. When I do that, it is my way of saying “I Love You”
(T) Oh that is so sweet. I’ll tell her to be on the lookout for you brushing by her.(T)What about the other people in the house?
(I) I like all the people – visitors and friends but I still stay away because I don’t want them to touch me.(T) You’re a really good dog with beautiful eyes. Thank you for taking the time to talk to me. Bye.

Your conversation with Ivy was so on-point that it made me cry. Thank you so much for talking to her and please come back for more chats. I am sure she’d love it, even if she needs to keep her distance.You are absolutely correct about:
– her being anxious
– a delicate personality filled with love
– keeps a safe distance from all humans
– sometimes tense when touched
– no crates
– loves being outside
– definitely prefers to be on the floor
– they do look alike and I do love the way they look
– house doesn’t have room like the backyard (home is a renovation mess with limited space due to construction stuff everywhere)
– slight brush when I am giving dinner (yes! I have just recently started noticing this the past 2 days. It is extremely gentle and brief, and always while I am giving dinner – so cool to know it’s her way of saying I love you. <3Agreeing to talk if she doesn’t have to get close is exactly like her. She keeps her distance from everyone, whether they are friends family or strangers. She loves coming to me for pets and really enjoys sitting right up against me – the closer the better is my impression, lol – but she does like the freedom of being able to walk away any time she wants.
The “TV shouting” brought up a lot of emotions and you hit the nail right on the head because I do watch a lot of TV and I can see how she would interpret it as shouting because it is right beside their beds and they are much closer to it than I am. I am so grateful that she mentioned this and described the TV in this manner because this is an even bigger incentive for me to stop watching TV all together — which I have been meaning to do for years. So thank you to both you and Ivy for this very important insight. So grateful!!!
We do have a fireplace; however, I think this may have been Oak chiming in, lol. He loves laying by the fireplace during winter and he’ll even go down to the basement (where the fireplace is located) all by himself to warm up and dry off. Ivy on the other hand might visit for a little while if I am starting the fireplace but she doesn’t stay long. It’s very rare that she lays down by the fireplace and sometimes it feels like a necessity for her just to be close to me when I sit by the fire myself.
Again, this was wonderful to read and extremely exciting and inspiring!! You are amazing Terrianne and doing an incredible job with these communications. Keep it up!!!

You are very welcome and THANK YOU for taking the time to connect with her. Your efforts are recognizable for sure! Considering you got the entire conversation practically correct definitely shows how much effort you have been putting into practicing and it is admirable, to say the least.Hmm, I did not receive the response from the email reply and probably because it is a “no reply” email so it doesn’t get delivered anywhere, lol. However, your reply through here sent me an email notification to let me know you have responded in this forum thread.

I connected with Ivy last night and had a nice conversation. I started by telling her that I also have an Ivy and she seemed intrigued by that idea. I also shared a personal “guilty pleasure” secret with her. It always seems to help open the conversation. Ivy shared with me that she likes chewing on wood and the leg of a blue chair came to mind.
When asked about the other dog in the house, she said she is sometimes annoyed with Oak wants to play and she prefers to nap. But overall, it’s all good. She did say that things in the house keep moving around and that leaves her confused and a little uncertain about what will come next. Ivy also told me it can be loud in the house but that all the new people were quite entertaining to her.
Ivy does like the outside because she can see the birds and anything else that might wander by her sight line. She likes stick and all the outdoor smells. Because of this, she would like the opportunity to see outside more. Maybe you can arrange the furniture or open the blinds to allow that to take place more frequently. She said she likes that she never knows what will happen outside and it is like TV for dogs.
In closing, I told her her amber eyes were beautiful and she asked me to say hello to my Ivy.
It was a lovely conversation and I appreciate you allowing me the opportunity.

Your interaction with Ivy is very interesting and thank you for taking the time to have a conversation with her.Feedback:
-She is not a chewer at all and we do not have any blue furniture, and she actually despises sticks and won’t even put them in her mouth, lol.
-It’s usually the other way around, where Oak is a bit annoyed because Ivy wants to play and he does’t, and if one is napping the other is very respectful to leave them be.
-I’m not sure what she means by “things in the house keep moving around” because even though the house is in mid-renovations, it is and has been at a complete standstill for over 2 years. I would really love it if you could inquire further into this with her. What specific things are moving? Or is it just when I’m running around cleaning?
-I live alone and I am a bit of a hermit, lol, so we haven’t had any company or new people in over 3 years.
-Yes, she does like being outside and I have been giving her more opportunities and lengthier times outside.
-All the blinds are mostly always open and their beds are right in front of a sliding glass door where they can see all activity outside, including birds.
-Outside being like a TV for dogs sounds like something she’d say, lol.With all that said, I wouldn’t be surprised if she was talking about her previous home environment. I didn’t receive a lot of information from the previous owners, but it sounded like a hectic chaotic environment with lots of stimuli and activity. The previous owners also did indicate that she was a “trouble maker” which I never experienced personally, but I can see how maybe she was chewing on and destroying the furniture because she was bored there.
I would definitely love it if you continued having more conversations with her and asking more open-ended questions. I am curious to hear where this interaction may go from here. Keep going Tricia 🙂

Thank you Hedi. I know that animals can sometimes blend or mix up their different living situations. This is a good reminder to me to ask if this is the place they are currently living.

What do you like about being a dog?
She shows me herself wiggling, happy, running, .
Her house is brick- maybe two story.
She likes or would like to go for walks. she likes to lead. Walks are best because she brings you outdoors and you focus on joy in the outdoors.
She likes wet dog food best. She might like to try some leftovers.
She thinks she is 2-3 years old and that she met you at an animal shelter.
I asked about her name- it seemed like it didnt fit her, but she showed me that ivy is outdoors, that it is strong, it spreads. Is Oak her best friend? Unsure about this.She has mild digestive discomfort. She doesn’t know why. She is open to trying different food.
I also asked if she had any wisdom for me personally.I should keep going! with animal communication.
I’m considering amove and she showed me the difference between my being in relationship to the places we are considering, and my partner’s being in relationship to the places we are considering moving. It was very helpful and made sense.-
Hi Penny! Thank you for chatting with Ivy and I apologize for the late reply. She is a very happy wiggly dog, but we do not live in a brick home. She definitely loves her walks but actually prefers following. This is back from October and we were trying different foods at that time and she does get to try leftovers but rarely, so maybe I’ll let her try some more. Hi Hedi, thanks for allowing me to speak with Ivy. I’ve not looked at earlier posts, and being rather short on practice, did not get too much. However, I hope some of this resonates with you.
Ivy has a happy temperament, high energy and an excited high pitched bark. Her aura is green and yellow. Her breathing is even, has a warm body and soft fur. Her favorite thing is to run around and play with sticks. She seems to have had an unhappy past and is grateful to have a home with you. She is an old soul and her role is that of a companion. She wants you to slow down and advises me to be patient.

Ivy does have a very happy temperament and high energy but I wouldn’t really say her bark is high pitched. Beautiful colors for her aura! I love that!! The running around and playing with sticks must have been coming from Oak. Ivy has absolutely no interest in sticks, lol. Yes, she is definitely happy to be here after an unhappy past. She is very wise with that advice because I definitely need to SLOW DOWN and that message has been coming through a lot lately. Thank you for talking with her Nita. Keep up the good work. Much love!!
